Final Project – Discussion #4

We made the final decision to work on the scavenger hunt. Our scavenger hunt culminates in the completion of a puzzle that has parts of our making assignments. We decided to work on creating what this completed puzzle will look like.

The project has a overarching theme of a ‘land of memories’ for our J-term. The background of the puzzle is from Oscar’s ‘Land of Memories’.

The projects included add the picture as follows:

  1. A woman on the beach: This takes inspiration from Shahram’s video on the pursuit of happiness. Many of the assignments are connected by this concept.
  2. Goldfish: From Shahram’s Making #6. In the web series “Ted Lasso”, Ted (a football coach) asks his players to be like a goldfish whenever something disturbing happens, since goldfishes have a very short memory.
  3. Underwater fishes: Shahram represented several happy emotions in this assignment.
  4. Noodle bowl of hopes and dreams: The building blocks of happiness – love, adventure, recognition and food. (will be included with physical origami)
  5. Space: Sid’s first assignment, signifies inter-personal space.
  6. Cyborg woman in chains: From one of Sid’s AI futuristic assignments. She wasn’t ‘happy’ with the toaster, and now she must suffer. She didn’t give her toaster enough ‘inter-personal’ space.
  7. Oscar’s Portal: wouldn’t you be happy if NYU had portal travel?
  8. Oscar’s Desert: The destiny of everything.
  9. Apple Fairy: Sara would kill us if this wasn’t there. Fairies are happy.

Tomorrow we will work on hints and clues + logistics.

Onformative Studio Visit

Work not focused on certain media

Include the human factor in work

Idea of improvisation and including spontaneous reaction of audience/ performers – charlotte VR thing and audience interacting differently each time with one of their projects

Don’t want to repeat ideas as they are, look at it from different perspective when client asks for a similar theme to previous works

We need to view AI as a co-creator , use technology to elevate us

Raise more questions than answers

Goal is not to create reality as it is

Lateral thinking involved – what they do might not be cost effective or efficient but opens doors to new possibilities

Mariana class visit response

Her work seems to be mostly experimental, from adding pieces to the piano and eating voices.

Her work was fascinating. However, I thought a layman who knows nothing about music might not enjoy the sound aesthetically that much. This is because I thought the first pieces especially did not have a cohesive rhythm.

Flow reading response

This reading explores concepts a bit more abstract than the previous readings. It starts by explaining the control of consciousness as a path to liberation. It also contextualizes that this control is not cumulative and it is dependent of its time. It also establishes that it cannot be institutionalized, as it does not depend on following a series of rules. I think this is just another way of allowing freedom and creativity into our consciousness. I thought it was interesting the way games are divided and classified. Mimicry is the one that is more interesting for this class, but all the others are equality interested ti analyze. Maybe lateral thinking is just another way of creating flow. Some parts of the reading were confusing for me, there were so many different concepts that I found it difficult to break it down into more understandable pieces.
