Reading Response 2- Lateral Thinking Intro

In the introduction to Lateral Thinking, de Bono discusses the need to go beyond traditional thinking methods and embrace lateral thinking as a tool for creativity and problem-solving. He highlights the limitations of vertical thinking and encourages us to break away from the constraints to explore alternative perspectives.

He makes it clear that lateral thinking is not a random or chaotic process but a structured approach that can be learned and cultivated. Additionally, De Bono highlights the importance of creating an environment conducive to lateral thinking. He states that educational systems prioritize vertical thinking when we should be encouraging lateral thinking.

Making Assignment 3- Cars (Haya)

Cars:

  1. Why do we use cars? To get places
  2. Why do we need to get places? To get around the city
  3. Why do we live in a city? Because we are students
  4. Why are we students? Because we go to university
  5. Why do we go to university? To get a degree
  6. Why do we need a degree? To work and be successful
  7. Why do we need to be successful and work? To live a happy and fulfilling life

For my third making project, I decided to go with cars as my topic. Then I began the thought process of my “why” questions, which led me to university, work, and success. I eventually decided to create a replica of the public transport ticket but as our ticket to university and life. Our issuing date to life is our date of birth and the end date is our death day. I then decided to write NYUAD as the location in which we attain a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science which is around $80,000. For the rest of the details, the time we are issued our ticket to life is our time of birth which we are then allowed to explore the world and live as we please.

The globe is our terrain and we may go and investigate the world around us with its many areas, terrains, and cultures. Through the use of transportation, we lead ourselves down a path to explore ourselves through school, university, work, and travel.

Reading Response 3- Lateral Thinking (Haya)

Chapter 1 of “Lateral Thinking” by Edward de Bono lays the groundwork for the book’s exploration of a different approach to problem-solving. De Bono introduces the concept of lateral thinking as a departure from traditional linear thinking, emphasizing the need for flexibility and creativity. He highlights the limitations of vertical thinking and encourages readers to challenge assumptions and explore alternative perspectives. The chapter serves as an invitation to embrace a more open and unconventional mindset, setting the stage for the subsequent exploration of practical techniques to enhance lateral thinking abilities. Overall, it provides a thought-provoking introduction to the concept and importance of lateral thinking in problem-solving and innovation.

Making Assignment 2- Freedom (Haya)

For my second making assignment, I decided to go with the concept of freedom. I was thinking about dinosaurs and the first thing that came to mind was how they have free will and the freedom to roam.

When I think about freedom I tend to think about an open air when one is allowed to roam around to live. I decided to write a poem about freedom to interpret these thoughts into words.

Studio Visit 1- Response (Haya)

During our studio visit today, he emphasized the end goal of our creativity and where we want to be in the future. He kept on mentioning what we want to get out of all of this and to have a clear idea in mind. On the other hand, I believe that we don’t necessarily have to have an end goal in mind when we start creating. As mentioned previously in the TED talk and in class, one should have the mind of a child where everything is new and inspiring to them. As you continue on your creative journey, you gain inspiration along the way which develops and changes over time to eventually reach an end goal.

Additionally, he discussed the difference between being an artist or content creator and what category we see ourselves in. In my opinion, they both run in the same circle as they both lead to creativity. Moreover, I enjoyed the idea of using perfumes as a creative medium. I found it interesting how you can link certain scents to different emotions, places, or sounds. From previous experience, I know that certain scents hold memories when we come back to the smells. This is a very interesting and creative concept in my opinion to spark creativeness in our lives.

Reading Response 1-Kermit

Kermit the Frog leads a compelling TED talk on the concept of creativity and its fundamental role in our lives. He emphasizes the importance of freedom of thought, recognizing that creativity flourishes in an environment where ideas can be freely explored and expressed. Breaking free from the constraints of convention and embracing the imaginative realm allows us to tap into the boundless possibilities of creative thinking.

He also mentions a key point that I find very important when discussing creativity: creativity thrives when we collaborate. Collaboration with fellow individuals who share a passion for innovation is very vital when exploring endless possibilities. Like-minded individuals come together to exchange ideas and build upon each other’s strengths to create something extraordinary.

Although some might say that creativity only stems from artists, writers, or musicians, Kermit reminds us that we are all creative beings as we create every single day. Creativity is not limited or exclusive, but the engine that “drives the very essence of our being”.

Just as everything is new and exciting to a child, Kermit tells us to step into that way of thinking to inspire our creativity and passions. Additionally, while structure and order provide a foundation for our lives, it is the chaos, failures, and mistakes that propel us forward. Before we have anything else, we have creativity. It is the spark that ignites innovation, problem-solving, and progress. Kermit urges us to embrace our innate creativity and harness its power to shape a brighter future.

Making Assignment 1- Dinosaur

A Mesmerizing Journey Back in Time: My Short Animated Film About Dinosaurs

Step into a time machine, buckle up, and prepare for a thrilling adventure as I take you back to the prehistoric era with my newly created animated film about dinosaurs. Combining the power of Canva and iMovie, I embarked on a creative journey to bring these magnificent creatures to life on the screen.

Canva, with its user-friendly design tools, proved to be the perfect platform for crafting visually stunning scenes, while iMovie allowed me to bring these scenes to life with motion and sound. Drawing inspiration from the mass extinction, I formulated a captivating storyline that would transport viewers to a world ruled by dinosaurs. With Canva’s versatile text options, I added descriptive captions, engaging dialogue, and educational snippets.

Once the visual design and storyline were in place, it was time to animate the dinosaurs using iMovie. This powerful video editing software enabled me to bring the still images to life through smooth transitions and clever editing techniques.
