Former CIA director of counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy poet,” described the intelligence game as the “Desert of Mirrors,” a phrase taken from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title in Greek means “little old man”, and the poem is an internal monologue that recounts the opinions and impressions of an older man, describing Europe after World War I through the eyes of a man who lived most of his life in the 19th century. The Agency is a must-watch series for any spy thriller fan. First of all, the cast is absolutely incredible. It stars Michael Fassbender, Jeffery Wright, Richard Gere and Katherine Waterston. That cast is reason enough to give it a chance, and it is also a very good series. I would not be surprised to see this series and most of the cast nominated for an award this awards season. The series is about an undercover CIA agent (Fassbender) who is ordered to leave his secret life behind and return to the field with his former lover (Waterston), with whom he is still in love. His love for her begins to interfere with his real life and mission. If you are a fan of spy thrillers or a good mystery series, give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
